A sketch for me represents a fundamental part of the process for creating a work of art. It might also leave you with a ‘spot of time’ that lasting feeling you have for a time and place which may come back to you one day unexpectedly. Sketching is a form of probing, whereas a photograph taken quickly doesn’t always give you the insights and changes a painting may require. However a photograph can be a good reminder of the tones, colours and shapes captured in a scene.
